Chelsea and Suzanne are no strangers to grief and addiction. Each week, we aim to explore these multi-dimensional topics, diving deep into the full spectrum of recovery, support, and education. Hello everyone, it’s been awhile and I HAVE MISSED YOU! As some of you know by now, I have taken on an amazing co-host, and I know you all will fall more and more in love with Suzanne as we go along. This will mark our first episode working together in this capacity, and boy- it’s a doozy!
This week, Suzanne and I are discussing the relatively recent (and EXTREMELY controversial) addition to the DSM-5: Prolonged Grief Disorder. According to Psychiatry.org: “Grief is a natural response to the loss of a loved one. For most people, the symptoms of grief begin to decrease over time. However, for a small group of people, the feeling of intense grief persists, and the symptoms are severe enough to cause problems and stop them from continuing with their lives. Prolonged grief disorder is characterized by this intense and persistent grief that causes problems and interferes with daily life.”
As two trauma survivors who very recently lost significant people in our lives, we have some things to say on the matter- and we bet you will, too! Please feel free to share your feedback and comments. You can do so as follows:
